13 November 2024

Timewise, this was the perfect day. No early start, plenty of time for breakfast, an excursion in the morning, and three on-board activities in the afternoon and evening. First we visited the Temple of Horus in Edfu, the medium-sized town where we had docked last night.  When we arrived at the Temple, Hend told us the story of Isis and Osiris, Horus and Seth. Then she took us through the temple, showing us how the story plays out on the wall decorations. Horus, the falcon king, is represented in several ways, as is the boat, carried on the shoulders of priests and nobles, which transports his body to burial and the afterlife.

After lunch on the the Amunet (our yacht), we were allowed to ride the tender as it circled around the Amunet while sails were being unfurled. This was followed by an interesting talk and video about modern Egyptian history.

For an evening meal, we crossed over to the mainland adjacent to our dock and enjoyed a four-course dinner outside on a long table surrounded by a high bamboo fence. At the end, a drum ensemble played and sang for us, and enticed all of us to the dance floor with them.
