7 November 2024

This is day 1-2. I departed Atlanta on a timely BA flight on Wednesday, November 6, and arrived at Heathrow Airport in London  at about 11 AM British time. The decision to buy a seat at the next level up from economy paid off. It allowed lots of leg room and reclined almost to a completely horizontal position. It also bumped me up a level in regard to food and drink service. Hardly had I fastened my seatbelt when an attendant offered me champagne or orange juice. A curry dinner followed, with a nice cup of tea after that. Next to me sat a youngish Egyptian man, polite, talkative, recently retired from the US Air Force, and making one of his quarterly visits to the family in Cairo.

Now I sit in a crowded Terminal 5 after threading the labyrinth from Terminal 3 via bus, foot, and another security check. Plenty of time, though: boarding of BA 400 to Cairo doesn't begin for another couple of hours. Best thing about this interlude: none of the airport monitors carries news of the American election!
